In 2017, we began this run as part of our awareness campaign on the importance of our reefs and the need to minimize plastic in our daily life. Since then, we have promoted bans on single use plastics (approved in 2018 on Roatan) #PLASTICFREEROATAN, strengthened the waste pickers association and implemented pilot separation projects around the Bay Islands.

2022 was our first year back after the pandemic and other natural events (hurricanes).  The races were ones for the record.  Racers mustered their courage to climb and descend the routes through the beautiful hills of Roatan, putting their legs to the test.

For 2023, we hope to use this fun family event to create change that will benefit people and reef health:

1. By promoting a municipal ordinance for separation in businesses, schools and homes.

2. By promoting a municipal ordinance to ban sunscreens that are not safe for reefs.

3. Increase awareness on how waste and other chemicals affect us and our reefs.

All proceeds generated from the event will go to the Bay Islands Conservation Association (BICA) programs in the Bay Islands National Marine Park (BINMP). Specifically, to continue the waste separation pilot projects in communities; as well, as the coral restoration project.
