Environmental Education

Work is done at the schools in the classroom and in the field.  Students of all ages participate in projects that improve their local environment.  Themes range from: solid waste, garbage separation, wetlands, water, coral reefs, sea grass, mangroves, reef fish, turtles, and others.  The primary goal is to teach and show students the amazing ecosystem they live in and their active role in taking care of it.

Community Development

Engage with the public, local and national government, and businesses to address the social, environmental and financial management of the local communities.  Guide the development and execution of productive strategies in sustainable livelihoods that improve the quality of life for the inhabitants who understand the importance of getting involved and supporting the conservation of the coastal marine resources of the Bay Islands of Honduras.

Protection

Work with local government to implement enforcement of environmental protection and management laws through active monitoring and litigative measures.

  1. Promote the strategic and participatory protection of coastal marine resources in the protected areas (marine and terrestrial).
  2. SINEIA-The National System for the Evaluation of Environmental Impact
  3. Reforestation Program (watersheds and wetlands)
  4. Coral Restoration Project “Coral Gardens” with CEM

Research and Monitoring

Establish strategic alliances with universities, organizations, programs and projects focused on scientific and applied research; that allow implementing adaptive integral monitoring systems that strengthen the effective management of the island’s coastal marine resources.

  1. Marine water quality monitoring around the island of Roatan (including all management zones in the Bay Islands National Marine Park). 2013-Present
