Temperature Data Loggers

Water Level - BICA Roatan

Monitoring temperature and sea level is crucial for understanding the dynamics of our oceans, assessing climate change impacts, and making informed decisions regarding coastal management. To address these needs, we have initiated a project focused on collecting accurate and reliable data using HOBO data loggers.

Why we do it?

Temperature and sea level are critical indicators of the health and behavior of our oceans. Rising global temperatures and sea levels are among the most visible and impactful consequences of climate change. Monitoring these parameters allows us to track long-term trends, identify patterns, and evaluate the impacts of climate change on coastal ecosystems and communities. By collecting comprehensive and high-quality data, we can contribute to scientific research, enhance our understanding of climate change, and support evidence-based decision-making.

What are we doing?

Since 2020, we have been deploying HOBO sensors at various strategic locations to collect temperature and sea level data. Currently, we have data loggers throughout the island of Roatan, Guanaja, and the northern coast of Honduras. These data loggers are reliable, robust, and capable of accurately measuring these parameters over extended periods. We strategically position the sensors along the coastline, including estuaries, beaches, and nearshore areas, to capture a comprehensive picture of the temperature and sea level dynamics.

The sensors continuously record temperature and sea level data at regular intervals, allowing us to track diurnal, seasonal, and long-term trends. Additionally, we establish data management protocols to ensure the collected data is properly processed, stored, and made available for analysis.
