Water quality
monitoring
What we are doing?
We carry out monthly water quality monitoring activities, essential to assess the impact of human activities on ecosystems, especially on the coral reefs surrounding the island of Guanaja. These actions are critical to maintaining the health of aquatic ecosystems and ensuring the sustainability of the community, whose economy depends directly and indirectly on reef-related tourism.
Why do we do it?
We conduct this monitoring because it is crucial to assess the impact of human activities on marine ecosystems, especially the delicate coral reefs surrounding Guanaja. The community relies significantly on tourism related to its reefs, increasing the negative impact on the ecosystem as tourism grows. This can decrease the quality and use potential of reefs, as well as pose a threat to public health due to bacterial contamination that can affect shellfish, drinking water, and recreational areas.
How you can help?
You can contribute to our conservation activities in several ways:
Volunteer
Join water quality monitoring activities as a volunteer organized by the Bay Islands Conservation Association (BICA). Your direct participation will contribute to the protection and preservation of Guanaja's marine ecosystems.
Donate
Your financial contribution is crucial to funding marine conservation projects in Guanaja, including water monitoring, habitat restoration, and educational programs. Every donation helps protect and preserve the region's valuable marine ecosystems. Donate
Awareness
Share information about the importance of coral reef conservation and water quality with others. It raises awareness of how our individual actions can affect marine ecosystems and motivates others to take action to protect them.
