What we are doing?
We are implementing a comprehensive monitoring and treatment program for SCTLD (Hard Coral Tissue Loss Syndrome) in the Bay Islands of Honduras, including Guanaja. This program includes constant monitoring of the spread of the disease on reefs, as well as the application of specific medical treatments to mitigate its effects.
Why do we do it?
We are actively addressing the troubling tissue loss in hard corals, which has resulted in the devastation of extensive reef areas in the region. We recognize how quickly this disease can spread along reefs, negatively impacting healthy corals and contributing to reduced coral cover and species diversity. In addition, we are aware of the economic importance of coral reefs, as local tourism is highly dependent on their health and beauty.
How you can help?
You can contribute to our conservation activities in several ways:
Volunteer
Join our teams as a volunteer to participate in SCTLD monitoring on reefs. Your help in data collection is invaluable in understanding the spread of the disease and its impact on corals.
Donate
Contribute financially to our SCTLD research and treatment programs. Your donations will help fund the purchase of equipment, medical supplies, and other resources needed to address the disease and protect coral reefs.
Awareness
Share information about the SCTLD and the importance of coral reef conservation with your community and on your social media. It helps raise public awareness of the challenges reefs face and the need to protect them.
