What we do?
We are conducting a comprehensive microplastics monitoring program in the Bay Islands of Honduras, including Guanaja. We recognize the significant threat microplastics pose to marine environments, as they can be ingested by marine life, causing damage to local ecosystems and potential risks to human health. Our monitoring program aims to collect accurate data on the presence and distribution of microplastics in the marine environment, which will allow us to better understand their impact and take effective measures to mitigate their spread.
Why do we do it?
We do so because we recognize that microplastics pose a significant threat to marine environments, including the Bay Islands. These tiny plastic fragments can be ingested by marine life, accumulating in the food chain and affecting various species, from fish to plankton. Monitoring microplastics is essential to understand their impact on wildlife and local ecosystems, as well as to assess risks to human health.
How you can help?
You can contribute to our conservation activities in several ways:
Volunteer
Join microplastics monitoring activities organized by the Bay Islands Conservation Association (BICA) as a student or volunteer. Your participation will contribute to the collection of vital data on the presence of microplastics in the marine environment of Guanaja.
Sustainable Practices
Help prevent more microplastics from entering the oceans by reducing your use of single-use plastics and promoting more sustainable waste management practices in your daily life.
Awareness
Promote environmental awareness and community engagement in the protection of marine ecosystems by sharing information about microplastics and their impacts on your social media and local community.
Donate
Your financial support helps BICA collect data on microplastics in Guanaja. Every donation is crucial to procure equipment and train volunteers. Donate
