Protection of Wetlands
The project encompassed various educational and conservation activities in Guanaja, including talks in 9 educational centers, giving more than 100 talks, and 3 guided tours with more than 60 children. In addition, 3 eco-cinemas were held with the assistance of more than 30 children, a wetland cleanup was carried out, removing more than 4,500 pounds of plastics, and the reforestation of approximately 30 hectares was carried out in areas degraded by Hurricane Mitch. Guanaja's wetlands, including mangroves and seagrass meadows, are essential for the maintenance of the hydrological system, biodiversity, and the protection of aquatic species.
Why do we do it?
In partnership with the local community, we are engaged in reforestation and conservation projects in the areas affected by Hurricane Mitch in the mangroves of Guanaja. These initiatives include the planting of native trees, the restoration of the environment and the implementation of measures to safeguard these essential ecosystems. In addition, we provide educational talks about the environment, guided excursions and interactive activities to raise awareness about the importance of mangroves in coastal protection and local development.
What we are doing?
We carried out mangrove reforestation in collaboration with the local community due to the imperative need to revitalize and conserve the mangroves hit by Hurricane Mitch. These mangroves are fundamental ecosystems that provide a multitude of benefits, such as coastal defense, habitat for wildlife, and support for the regional economy. By restoring these ecosystems, we contribute to the preservation of the environment, biological diversity and the well-being of local communities.
