BRAND
AUDITS
What are we doing?
We are conducting trademark audits on Guanaja Island, within the Bay Islands National Marine Park, as part of the Bay Islands Conservation Association's (BICA) efforts to address plastic pollution.
During these audits, we collect detailed data on plastic waste found on beaches and coastal areas. This includes identifying specific brands of products and the amount of plastic waste found.
Why do we do it?
We do this because plastic pollution poses a serious threat to marine ecosystems and wildlife in and around Guanaja, brand audits allow us to identify the sources of pollution and hold accountable the companies that contribute to this problem. By collecting data during coastal cleanups and meticulously documenting plastic waste marks, we can push companies to disclose their plastic footprint and set targets to reduce it.
In addition, these audits provide crucial information to better understand the extent and nature of plastic pollution in Guanaja, which in turn informs the design of effective waste management and mitigation strategies.
